Amherst Man Killed Crossing Vermilion Street
Theodore Solak 45 of Whittlesey Road Amherst was killed Friday night while crossing Liberty Avenue about a quarter mile east of Helen Drive at 9 15 p m. He was taken to Lorain Community Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. The coroner will determine the cause of death and police released no further details. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending Garland Funeral Home Amherst.

Ford to pay thousands under hiring bias settlement
United Auto Workers Local 425 leader said roughly 14,000 Ford workers nationwide would receive checks from an Equal Employment Opportunities Commission agreement. About $8 million targets unsuccessful applicants. $3.5 million goes to women and minorities in salaried posts before 1975. $1.5 million for women in hourly jobs before 1972. The five year plan begins after recalls, with up to $2,000 per person and an average payout in the hundreds, totaling about $23 million plus $10 million for training and affirmative action.

Saudis cut oil output to curb glut to 1982
