Devaluation of Avon Lake NRG Plant Hits Schools

Ohio tax officials cut the plant’s value from about 35.9 million to 16.4 million, reducing tax revenue for Avon Lake city and Lorain County schools. The aging NRG plant, once Genon owned, began downsizing after a 1970s unit opened, with a 54 percent devaluation startling local leaders and prompting questions about appeal. County Auditor Craig Snodgrass called the drop an eye opener. David Gaier of NRG declined comment on potential appeals.
