Lorain City Cannot Spend to Oppose Ballot Measure
Lorain Law Director Pat Riley told the City Council that public funds cannot be used to oppose Issue 23 which would repeal last year's decision to cut the resident income tax credit for workers outside the city. The council had reduced the credit from 2 to 1 percent, aiming to raise about 1.5 million dollars and avoid further staffing cuts. Opponents accuse the move of being an emergency action without resident input. officials warn the measure could jeopardize the city’s finances if it passes.
