Strong winds lash Lorain County with outages and damage

A Tuesday wind storm gusts to 57 mph in Elyria as a tree branch crushed a truck hood on West Ridge and Turner. Fire crews cleared the scene and the truck resumed service while downed lines disrupted several areas but caused no injuries.

Eight of nine area bank robberies solved in Lorain County

FBI spokesman Scott Wilson reports progress in 2010 with eight suspects in nine robberies arrested or turning themselves in. The latest is Michael J. Farlow, 24, of Sheffield Lake, who surrendered after a surveillance photo circulated for the October 18 Fifth Third Bank heist in Vermilion.

Bank Robberies in Lorain County Target Various Banks in 2010

A series of bank robberies in Lorain County in 2010 led to multiple charges and suspect identifications. Johnny Boone, 26, Elyria, faces charges for June 12. Robert Starnes, 32, Sheffield Lake, charged after July 14 and July 21 incidents. Other suspects include Michael Caro, 54, Elyria, and Robert Bey, 33, North Olmsted, with self admissions and chase aftermath. An October arrest involved Michael J. Farlow, 24, Sheffield Lake, after tips. A female suspect in October evade was described as 5'2" and 150 pounds wearing orange Cincinnati sweatshirt and sunglasses.

Oberlin Schools promote assistant superintendent to lead district

The Oberlin School Board promoted Assistant Superintendent John Schroth to the top job for a three year term effective Aug 1 2011. He will be paid 105000 annually with no search process. Community members criticized the rush amid debate over mascot costs and district leadership.
