Fisher Foods wins NLRB arbitration ruling on layoffs
A NLRB arbitrator ruled Fisher Foods Inc. did not violate its union contract by laying off and cutting hours of senior workers who refused early retirement. The decision ends eight months of arbitration for Fazio’s stores in northeastern Ohio, covering about 300 grievances filed by Local 880 members. The company saved roughly $3 million by replacing higher paid clerks and baggers with lower paid workers under a six month early retirement program.
