Horvitz proposes 3 way split of family empire

Lorain publisher Harry R. Horvitz seeks to divide his $180 million business empire into three independent segments to settle a bitter family dispute. The 413 page brief to Cuyahoga County Probate Judge Nahra, filed by Harry C. Nestor, names Harry, brothers Leonard and William, and retainer Francis Kane as involved parties. The heirs are seven Horvitz grandchildren. A consolidation of the family businesses faced Harry’s objections, aiming to keep him in control of the trust. The estate has grown from about $30 million at the father’s death to over $180 million now.

Washington UPI report notes Rep. John Conyers and AFL-CIO urge House subcommittee to pass a bill cutting the normal workweek from 40 to 35 hours, banning mandatory overtime and doubling overtime pay above 35 hours. Proponents say unemployment could drop and productivity rise.

New York AP Morgan Guaranty Trust Co raised its prime lending rate on Tuesday to 15 percent, the first major bank to do so. Two weeks earlier, the nation's largest banks boosted rates for top borrowers to 14.5 percent.

Shamblin murder case hinges on alleged payment of 200

Linda L Shamblin 34 is charged with complicity to commit aggravated murder in Milford F Shamblin 36 found shot Aug 29 near Rt 10. Her brother Bill Hayes testified at a preliminary hearing that she met Daniel Fels and paid about 200 to 300 dollars to have her husband killed. Hayes said she discussed hiring someone to kill him since earlier this year and claimed she was not herself, living on pills.
