Investigators found a bloodstained car with an automatic pistol and two empty bottles, while Brines remains at large in or near Philadelphia. Authorities say the two students were close friends, with no motive yet established for the killing.
The trial of John Jackson, former Elyria saloon keeper, on a burglary charge begins next Monday after the Martin case. He is accused of breaking into the C. G. Aschenbach dry goods store at Amherst and stealing about $3,000 in goods.

Police recovered a hoard of harness items on Jon Valenski’s farm on Sugar Ridge. Among the items were 42 harness pieces, reins, collars, bridles and a pelt, all linked to recent thefts in the city. Valenski, married with three children, was charged after detectives traced the loot from thefts in late October and November.
