Gov. Alf M. Landon announced a six thousand mile West Coast sprint to California and beyond as he aims to carry California for the Republican ticket. The tour will span Oklahoma City Indianapolis Philadelphia Pittsburgh New York City and St. Louis with stops October 20 23 24 26 27 29 and 31. He plans to tour via the Pacific coast then return to end in Independence Kansas. Leaders say the move will boost Landon’s standing as a strategist and energize the campaign in the homestretch.

Red Cross Roll Call Gets Under Way
An enthusiastic group of team captains and members began the 1936 Roll Call of the Elyria Chapter at the First Congregational Church. The local goal is 2,700 memberships with 1,900 from Elyria, 500 from Oberlin, and the rest from rural areas. James B. Thomas announced the first member, Dorr Billings. John H. Cremer spoke on Red Cross emergency work, including Ohio River floods. Edith Metcalf reported broad chapter activities, aid to ex‑service men, and social services averaging 30 to 40 cases monthly. The chapter supplied 967 new garments, 983 yards of material, and 12 layettes, plus second hand garments. In cooperation with the WPA, standard First Aid and Home Hygiene courses were funded locally. The chapter sent 62 Christmas bags to men in the Philippines, and Murray Ridge Junior Red Cross sent valentines to disabled soldiers at Walter Reed. During spring disasters, the chapter raised $3,652.26 for relief along the Ohio River, New England floods, and southern tornadoes, and helped gather clothing and goods with the American Legion and State Highway Department. The Elyria Chapter Executive Board elected included Judge A. R. Webber, H. C. Cheney, A. L. Baker, and James B. Thomas. Page 2 continues.
