Ohio to Build Second Turnpike from Conneaut to Cincinnati

Gov. Lausche outlines a 40 mile North South and Toledo to Cincinnati spur route with changes near Cleveland Akron and Columbus. The plan aims for construction to start in 1957 pending hearings and studies. The route travels through Ashtabula Lake counties toward Boston Heights and Akron then joins the Ohio Turnpike east of Route 176 before looping south and west to Cincinnati.

United Fund Opens First Campaign In Greater Eiytia

A large corps of volunteers begins the United Fund of Greater Eiytia drive aiming for 300 650 dollars. Division chairmen and area captains organized divisions and started solicitation among national firms. Reports indicate volunteers will collect at a luncheon meeting funded by industry and business on Oct 21 at American Lemon Hall with subsequent luncheons on Oct 3 and Oct 27.

Bus Collision in Indiana Kills Six, Wounds Twenty-One

A Greyhound double decker traveling to New York struck a semitrailer parked along Route 20 near Michigan City Indiana. Six people died and 21 were injured as passengers and the driver were trapped or injured by debris. Fire crews freed the trapped after hours and identified the six victims by name and residence.

Columbia Woman Hurt In Bus Crash

Miss Clara den Wallweber of Columbia Station was a passenger on a Greyhound bus that struck a truck trailer in Michigan City Indiana early today. She suffered a cut over the eye but was not seriously injured and planned to continue her trip home after a hotel stay. An Ohio passenger, George S Fredericks aged 21 of Hubbard, was the other reported injured.

Car Found In Water Kills Avon Lake Man

Deputies and Avon Lake police investigated the death of Elberta Beach resident Lawrence Sheppard whose body was found in a submerged car in Lake Erie near the village park. The car veered from Rt 76, crashed through a hedge, and entered the lake around 3:30 p m. It remains unclear if death was due to crash injuries drowning or preexisting death. Sheppard, a maintenance man at B F Goodrich Co , was taken to St Joseph Hospital in Lorain. Funeral arrangements were pending.

A mid November hurricane like storm battered the North Atlantic coast delivering at least 12 deaths across New England and New York. Winds up to 70 mph and heavy rains caused flooding downpours, downed wires, and evacuations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Sheppard appeals to Ohio Supreme Court in murder case
