Saturday night thundershowers expected in the upper and middle Mississippi valley and the northern Atlantic coast area. Elsewhere, cold and cool conditions anticipated for the rest of the nation.
A cold night with freeze warnings in the northwest and light showers possibly mixed with snow in the east. Skies gradually clear in the west and temperatures fall to the upper 20s to low 30s. Sunday remains partly cloudy and cool with highs reaching the upper 40s and lower 50s in spots.
A marine forecast indicates winds from the west to northwest at 15 to 25 knots and waves ranging from three to five feet tonight.
A cold period brings a possibility of snow flurries in the northeast Monday. Tuesday turns fair with showers possible, as highs reach the 50s Monday and upper 50s to 60s Tuesday and Wednesday. Lows range from the 30s Monday and Tuesday to the lower 40s Wednesday.
A Common Pleas Court judge issued a preliminary injunction against Clifford H. Hallowell of 16431 Shurmer Road restraining him from operating any business on his residential property that involves fence construction or assembly. The injunction follows neighbor complaints about his fence contracting work. A permanent injunction will be heard later.
The Lorain County Dental Hygienist Association sponsors a continuing education class titled Facial growth and development to be held November 1 at Sawraill Creek Lodge in Huron. Dr. Donald Enlow of Case Western Reserve University will speak. The program runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch included in a $30 registration fee. Nurses may register by October 18 by calling Nancy Beam or Linda Yergey.
A Canadian air mass drove into the upper Midwest bringing frost or freeze warnings across Michigan, northern and central Illinois, central Nebraska, and central and eastern Kansas. The system followed thunderstorms that killed one person in Flora Illinois and sparked a tornado injuring four in Winoa Ohio. Rain showers spread along the Atlantic coast and into the eastern Gulf states as temps ranged from 21 in Hibbing Montana to 80 in Key West Florida.
Lorain Family YMCA announced its Annual Membership Enrollment Drive ended Monday at 107.8 percent of the 1979 goal, tallying 1,078 memberships. Volunteer leadership included five division chairmen and workers such as Bayer, Versace, Schauss, Lugerik, Lakatos, Clark, Sciulli, Aponte, Versace again, and Alessio, with Bayer at 71 memberships and Versace at 84.
An unofficial court tabulation lists defendants and penalties including Donald Doyler of Foxhill Lane facing DWI with an $800 fine and three years driving suspension. The Elyria Holiday Inn may launch a private luncheon club named Centennial Luncheon Club. Innkeeper Jock Gearhart and food beverage director Carrall Boswell circulated a community survey to gauge interest. Membership capped at 200 with about 50 dollars yearly dues and monthly direct billing for all inn services.
