Synanon hit list scrutiny follows rattlesnake attack
California attorney general opens probe into beatings of at least 15 Synanon enemies after a rattlesnake strike on attorney Paul Morantz. Lance Kenton, 20, son of Stan Kenton, is jailed on suspicion of planting the venomous snake in Morantz's mailbox. Joseph Musica remains in custody. The pair, reportedly Synanon members, allegedly part of the imperial Marines, a Synanon paramilitary group. Morantz was treated and listed in good condition at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center.

Ray and Bride wed in brief conjugal ceremony at prison
James Earl Ray married Anna Sandhu, a 32 year old divorcee, at Brushy Mountain State Prison in Petrol Tenn. The ceremony conducted by Rev. James Lawson followed a five minute exchange under guard. Ray, serving a 99 year sentence for the King assassination, will not be eligible for parole until 1998. Mrs. Ray plans to resume her freelance art work.
