Garford School Area Plans Halloween Parade and Jamboree

Garford School area prepares for a Halloween parade and jamboree on Friday October 22 at 7 pm. Mrs. Brice Wiggins chairs the budget and finance committee, Myron Averbook leads the PTA fathers group, with Bert Bilow Charles Hazelton Norine Smith Ward Hubbard and Robert Fusselius assisting. Prizes for costumes, bake sale and candy by kindergarten, a novelty store for first grade, fish pond and ghost room for second grade, lunch and baked goods for third and fourth grades, popcorn and candy for sixth grade, and a seventh grade dance with refreshments.

Birmingham Fair Opens This Evening

The 27th annual Birmingham Fair opens tonight and continues October 15 and 16. Sponsored by Future Farmers of America and Future Homemakers of America, the event aims to fulfill its reputation as one of the best little fairs despite a shorter apple crop.

Station WEOL To Go On The Air Sunday, Oct. 17

WEOL plans a Lorain studio at the Antlers Hotel and an Oberlin outlet soon to broadcast Cerlan families of Oberlin College. Four 318 foot towers near Gratton were erected after last December’s towers were broken. The Blyria-Lorain Broadcasting Co was formed December 10, 1945 and represents a quarter million dollar investment with Roy W Ammel as president and key stockholders including Elyria figures and business leaders.

Britain Adopts Tough Plan for Winter Power Rationing

Britain prepares for the annual winter crisis with coal stocks at 17.36 million tons and a government driven power rationing plan. Industrial and commercial use will face a 50 percent cut and higher home rates in December to February, with rebates in other months. Coal production may lag, risking the 200 million ton target.

City council approves one cent rate hike for Ohio Fuel Gas

Jackson council grants a one cent increase raising the average bill by about 30 cents monthly. Rates set at 20 cents per 100 cubic feet for the first 500 feet, six cents for the next 1,500 feet, and 542 cents beyond 2,600 feet. contract includes free gas for two municipal buildings. Also notes record cold fronts with Yellowstone at minus 66 in 1933 and Byrd reporting 90 below in Antarctica.
