The latest poll shows Dewey and Warren ahead in twenty seven states outside the south, while Truman and Barkley lead in five. Wallace representation narrows gaps as trends shift. In the south Dewey leads Virginia with 11 electoral votes, with other states unsettled.

The 1949 Elyria Community Chest opening rally shifts to Ely Stadium from the high school auditorium if weather permits due to high demand for tickets. 800 more tickets are being printed. if weather fails, the rally moves to the high school auditorium with first come, first served entry. The event starts at 6 30 p.m. Monday to kick off the drive for 97 867 dollars for 14 Red Feather services.

County official notes drainage work on Route 254

County Commissioner Oscar C. Dunn reports the state highway department will improve drainage along the north side of Route 254 from West River Road to Pearl Road. Work includes cleaning drain tile and installing catch basins every 200 feet after Dunn had called attention to the road’s poor condition.

Dr Myers Named Medical Adviser To Draft Board

Dr Ben V Myers of 908 Park Avenue was named medical adviser to Selective Service Board No 72 by President Truman on Gov Thomas Herbert's recommendation. A Miami University and University of Cincinnati medical school graduate, Myers served as lieutenant colonel and commanded the 135th General Hospital in England during 16 months overseas. He returned to civilian life in 1947 and will help screen men to reduce medical rejections at Cleveland examining stations.

Roy Lee Davis aged 50 of 651 East River Street died at Elyria Memorial Hospital after being crushed under a boxcar at the New York Central freight station Oct 3. He suffered a crushed thigh and hemorrhage. Born in Rockwell Texas, he worked as a factory machine operator in Elyria and belonged to First Baptist Church Cleveland Oklahoma. Fire damages two family home on Bond Street

A blaze of unknown origin heavily damaged the two story residence at 512 Bond Street owned by G H Mc Farland. Fire Chief W N Bates estimated losses could reach 800 to 1000 dollars. McFarland and tenants were away. the first floor contents and portions of the living room, bedroom, and kitchen suffered smoke and heat damage. Funeral services were set for Louis Reuter 89 who was killed when struck by a motorcycle yesterday in Wheeling West Virginia. A Legion dance for members only was announced.

Four Cars Damaged In Western Street Collision

Four cars were damaged and two people suffered minor injuries in a collision on Cleveland street at 3 40 p m yesterday. A car driven by D H Stineway stopped for traffic causing Dean Phillips and Harold Gates to stop. A following car driven by Mrs Phyllis Jones collided with Gates and cascaded into Phillips and Stineway, injuring Gates and a baby. All cars were headed west.
