Sock robbers target hotel guests in Midtown Manhattan
New York City police arrested two men in connection with a series of sock‑gag robberies in the New Yorker Hotel corridor. Detectives said the suspects attacked guests on upper floors, binding victims with ties and stuffing socks down throats to prevent screams. A California man, James Barthold, aided by detectives, helped save a mugged victim found unconscious and turning blue. The suspects James A. King and Edward Keelan of Jersey City were charged with attempted murder after a confrontation in a hotel lobby.
