Indictments Expected From Kent State Shooting Grand Jury

A special state grand jury probing the Kent State University killings May 4 is expected to issue indictments today. The proceedings at Portage County Courthouse included viewing photos and film of the disturbances and hearing witnesses from the Ohio National Guard, students, campus police, and officials.

UAW official visits strikers at GM Fisher Body plant

UAW Region Two director Bill J. Casstevens met with about 1,800 picketing workers at General Motors Fisher Body Division in Elyria. He urged local negotiations as a two way street and asserted GM could end the strike in two days if desired. The visit came as talks resumed at the national level in Detroit after 24 days on strike.

Lorain youths named in fire suit over school blaze

Three Lorain youths and their parents face a civil suit by Fidelity and Guaranty Underwriters and Oheo Farmers Insurance seeking 5618.13 for school fire damage to Lorain High School. Plaintiffs also seek 800 per parent, with juvenile court prior delinquencies noted.

Bombs Hit California Armory and San Rafael Court House

Three blasts damaged a National Guard armory in Santa Barbara and the county courthouse in San Rafael, injuring none. The Weatherman-linked strikes damaged classrooms and a sheriff’s office area, with warnings called in beforehand. A Seattle university building also reported a small fire after the blast.

Plane crash kills Elyria optical owner in Clearfield County

Elyria resident Floyd H. Coffman 47 owner of Coffman Optical was killed when his single engine plane crashed near a hunting camp in Union Township Clearfield County Pennsylvania. The crash followed a stall at low altitude, flames engulfed the wreckage, and Coffman was pronounced dead at the scene. He left six children and had refueled at Dubois Jefferson Airport about 255 p.m. local reports say.
