Violence Breaks Out In Chicago Milk Strike
Striking farmers burned two railroad bridges and blew up a section of track to cut Chicago’s milk supply as Gov. Horner sought a 30 day truce for arbitration. United Farmers of Illinois voted to continue withholding milk until prices rise. An explosion derailed a train near Freeman’s Crossing, five miles northwest of Elgin, and a gasoline handcar crew watched the blast. Three spans of a wooden bridge near Gilberts were set ablaze, the bridge destroyed before deputies arrived.
