State rests case against Joseph Meluch
In a surprise move after the morning recess the state rested its case against Joseph Meluch 28 former Lorain boxer and amateur detective charged with the murder of his bride of six weeks Dorothy 22 at the Meluch family home in Lorain on August 14. The testimony included a transcript of Meluch statements made in St Louis after he turned himself in following a three week fugitive period. He described a struggle when Dorothy pulled a 38 caliber pistol from a writing tablet on the cable and tried to fire. he said he knocked the gun away, struck her with it, believed she was dead, then left to change clothes and go away. Police testified about locating and discarding the weapon. The defense then called Margaret Meluch 22 who testified the couple seemed happy but Dorothy was extremely jealous, and that she saw no quarrel between them until later. The trial continues.
