Gilligan warns against Nixon plan hurting Ohio jobs

Ohio Governor John J. Gilligan told the House Banking and Currency Committee that President Nixon’s tax relief proposal for industry could raise unemployment in Ohio. He cited dropping real income, potential public employment strain, and 5,000 to 6,000 more job losses, with about 100,000 veterans and 100,000 teachers affected by budget cuts and welfare outlays. He urged ending the wage freeze and highlighted state studies showing many workers would qualify for food stamps and welfare under the act.
