Senate Contest in Michigan Divides Voters on Faith and Policy

Detroit voters face a clear choice between Rep. Charles E. Potter a legless World War II veteran and conservative Republican, and Sen Blair Moody a Democrat and former Detroit News correspondent as they pick a successor to the late Sen Arthur H. Vandenberg. The race centers on labor support in Detroit and outside strength for Potter with Moody hoping to unite the party. Moody’s labor voting record and CIO backing loom large while Potter highlights anti-Communist credentials and a wide campaign reach despite a disability.
