Local Bus System To Be Taken Over By New Owners
Elyria City Council gave first reading to an ordinance allowing Elyria Transit Co to operate a bus system with a eight year charter and fare revisions. The move follows a request from Elyria Coach Co to terminate its franchise and transfer operations on November 1. The plan includes a new fare schedule with 10 to 15 cent cash fares, free rides for children under six and uniformed officers, and optional free transfers. The city may acquire the transit property after October 1953 if the company elects to terminate the franchise.
