A 48 year old Lorain man reported being abducted and robbed of 3300 dollars in cash and jewelry after being stopped at a Broadway and 17th Street traffic light. Two men in their 20s took a 2500 dollar gold and diamond ring a 800 dollar gold bracelet and cash before he escaped near East 28th Street and Denver Avenue. He sought help at a bar and police were notified.

A preliminary hearing for Rogelio Zaldi Pena on Aug. 6 stabbing death of Rachel Soto, 30, near Lorain’s Hole-in-the-Wall beach, was continued to Monday at 2 30 p m. Assistant prosecutor Gargasz sought more time for witnesses and defense report. Defense attorney Otero Jr. urged dismissal but was denied by Judge Timko.
Police chief described a car with no body, just a frame and engine. Glen West, 60, of 97 Colony Drive, was stopped on West River Road September 30 for an unsafe vehicle. The car allegedly used a plastic gas-tank bottle and a lawn chair seat. West is to be arraigned October 6 in Elyria Municipal Court.

In Elyria the Center East School for the adult mentally retarded opens Monday at First Congregational Church on Second St. Founder Karel Lojowsky of Bay Village says the program aims to extend public education with classes 7 to 9 pm on Mondays and Thursdays at a $150 monthly cost. Three Elyria students have enrolled. maximum class size is 10 with two certified teachers. A similar Cleveland Heights program exists and another site may open in Western Cuyahoga County.
A retirement dinner was held at DeLuca's Place in the Park for Carol Kurowski, a 21 year veteran of the Lorain County clerk of court's office. Earlier that day, three judges in Lorain County Common Pleas Court drafted a resolution thanking her for twenty years of service and wishing her happiness in retirement.
The House Government Operations Committee accuses the Office of Management and Budget of delaying the Nixon records policy to shield White House and Justice Department actions. It urges the National Archives to ignore a DOJ opinion claiming archivist cannot override Nixon executive privilege. Archives hold 42 million pages and 800 plus Nixon era tapes.
An 18 year old Elyria man, Clarence Sauer, charged with the beating death of blind man Larry Reagan, will undergo psychological tests at Nord Community Health Center. Judge Joseph Cirigliano ordered the examination after a pre trial hearing, with another hearing set for Oct. 24. Sauer pleaded innocent, and innocent by reason of insanity. Reagan's body was found in an abandoned passenger depot near Depot Street and East Avenue.
