Two American hostages in a videotaped appeal urged the Reagan administration to extend equal effort to freeing U S captives in Lebanon as it did for three held by Islamic Jihad. The ten minute tape and a short statement were released to Western news agencies with uncertain authorship.
Gwendolyn Jones of Westlake says the Reagan administration should push harder to win Terry Anderson’s release from Islamic Jihad and cites progress in Daniloff case as a model. In Washington, Free Terry Anderson Committee head Jack LaVinha met with Jerry Levin to boost action. Peggy Say in Batavia says tape shows Anderson appears OK and urges stronger government effort.
Anderson and Jacobsen appeared in a videotape from Moslem west Beirut, saying their hardships have worsened and criticizing US handling after fellow hostage William Buckley’s murder. They compared their case to Daniloff’s Moscow release and urged action after two years of empty talk.
Elyria Loran County Sheriff Martin Mahony said Donald D Putnam 21 of Berea is charged with murder in the death of Lori Taylor 17 last March near Dunham Road Grafton Township Hayes 24 also faces complicity to murder and obstructing justice Putnam was jailed on an aggravated arson case in August while Taylor disappeared from Berea and her partial remains were found July 16 police say the trio drove from Berea to the Dunham Road location where an argument led to the stabbing and Taylor died of multiple heart stab wounds the weapon remains missing and Putnam may be arraigned within a week in Elyria Municipal Court
Lorain developers propose repaying a $300000 HUD funded loan with six years of interest payments then a lump sum principal. The Lorain Port Authority refused to provide a $35000 annual loan for six years to cover the interest. City officials discuss options and potential council vote pending legal draftings.
