Rep. Patrick Sweeney a Cleveland Democrat says he will file suit in the Ohio Supreme Court challenging Gov. Gilligan's reapportionment as not meeting constitutional requirements for compact and contiguous districts. Republicans also plan similar challenges, with a federal suit possible.
A letter to Secretary of State Brown from Gov. Gilligan and two fellow Democrats seeks to fix alleged clerical errors in House district descriptions of the reapportionment plan. The board adjourned sine die amid questions if changes can be officially adopted.
The first game of the American League Championship Series between Baltimore and Oakland was postponed due to rain and wet grounds at Memorial Stadium. Cronin rescheduled Game 1 for 2 p.m. tomorrow, moved Game 2 to Monday, canceled the travel day after that, and kept Game 3 set for 3 p.m. Tuesday in Oakland. This was the first rainout since 1969.

A group led by former Cleveland infielder Al Rosen and Lorain industrialist George Steinbrenner III has offered to buy the Indians for $9 million to keep the team in Cleveland. Vernon Stouffer, the owner, and the board discussed the proposal after a three hour meeting while Steinbrenner denied a firm offer.
A BEA turboprop on the London Salzburg route crashed near Tielt Belgium. All 63 aboard are feared dead. Witnesses reported an in-air explosion. The plane had stopped at Brussels en route and carried eight crew and many passengers. Police say the aircraft exploded in the air. The crash occurred in clear morning weather.
