Alltel rate cuts offset by new charges in Ohio
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio ruled that Alltel customers in Elyria and 13 other counties face a 30 cent average bill drop for residential service if they avoid directory assistance and phone booths. The decision lets Alltel charge 30 cents per directory assistance call, raise pay phone calls from 20 to 25 cents, and lift standard line rentals 85 cents to 1.75 monthly, boosting gross operating revenues by about 1.5 million dollars. Alltel serves about 53,000 customers across 14 counties, including Elyria and nearby towns.
