Private jail project eyed for 1987 start in Sheffield Village
Corinthian Corporation of Berea has a binding land-purchase deal for a $3.5 million private jail on French Creek Road and aims to begin construction in 1987. The 11 acres, zoned industrial, were bought from Martin Mariotti with a court-validating zoning decision and ongoing soil tests. The project faces two lawsuits by the Citizens Committee to Stop the Jail, while village leaders report the measureblocking expansion did not derail the plan. Rogerson says financing is likely and construction could start if permits and papers finalize early next year.
