A US CH46 helicopter crashed into a Que Son mountain side near Da Nang killing all 15 Marines aboard. Among the dead was Lt. Col. William Leftwich of Memphis Tennessee. Fog and poor visibility cited as likely causes. wreckage recovered by Marine ground teams. Leftwich had led from the front, ordering a patrol extraction before tragedy struck.

UPI report from Fort Benning covers testimony at Lt. William L. Calley Jr. court martial about the March 1968 My Lai village assault. John Paul, radio operator for Capt. Ernest Medina, testified that two American platoons fired heavily until ordered to stop to conserve ammo. He described 15 to 20 dead villagers and said Med ina ordered a halt without evidence of resistance. Other witnesses corroborated finding civilians dead along the trail.
