Southern governors weigh two party shift after Eisenhower win
Four southern governors at the Southern Governors Conference in New Orleans urged concrete aid from the Eisenhower administration to build Republican strength in the South. McKeldin of Maryland said Eisenhower wants party growth. Warren of Florida cited personal GOP support. Wetherby of Kentucky cautioned on Mason-Dixon expansion. Carvel of Delaware called two parties vital nationwide. Battle of Virginia noted possible Midwest coalition. Shivers of Texas floated same idea to unite Democrats.
