Route 20 Association Meeting Draws Delegations

Common Pleas court room in Sandusky County hosted a full meeting of the Federal Highway Route 20 Association with delegates from Dover to Angola Indiana. The group voted to hire a field representative, tasked the president C. C. Patterson of Norwalk to form a Columbus committee on the 1931 state Route 20 program, and discussed publishing maps for the highway. The session included a Central West Ohio representative and adjourned to meet on November 25 in Bellevue City Building.

Question Girl Tied to Midwest Burglaries In Cleveland

A 21 year old bob-haired girl suspected of a chain of midwest burglaries is questioned at Central police station in Cleveland. Her brother-in-law is held, her husband escaped after police fire. Detectives link them to robberies in Oklahoma Detroit and other sites. They also target a $350 cash robbery at Barnett Sherman’s Valet Service Cleaners.

French Premier Tardieu Secures Confidence Vote in Paris

In Paris on November 14 the Chamber of Deputies passed a vote of confidence in Premier Andre Tardieu’s foreign policy by 323 to 270. The session was highly bitter and Aristide Briand, the foreign minister, led the opposition, defending the government’s policies amid illness. Both leaders sought the mandate to sustain their administration.

Compromise On Limitation of War Materials

Geneva November 14 The League of Nations preparatory disarmament commission adopted a plan for indirect and budgetary limits on war materials. Direct limitation motions were rejected after Count Von Bernstorff of Germany proposed breaking the deadlock between nations seeking direct limits and those favoring budgetary restraint.

Governor White Faces Aea Problem In Ohio

Governor elect George White will inherit about 185 appointive jobs and $1.25 million in position value, with annual salaries near $600,000. The eight cabinet leaderships plus the prohibition chief are available for early appointments, led by Finance Director Harry Silver and Prohibition Commissioner Rupert Beetham. Americans killed by Brazil Indians confirmed toll

Reports from Consul General Charles R. Cameron in Sao Paulo confirm three American deaths at the hands of Nhambiquara Indians in Brazil on November 3. The victims are Rev. Arthur F. Tylee and his daughter Marion Tylee of Worcester Massachusetts, and Mildred Paulina Kratz of Wheaton Illinois. Ethel Tylee was wounded but recovering.

Chest Workers To Meet Tonight At Congregational Church

Army and Navy to Played in New York Benefit Game

Army and Navy will meet in New York City on December 13 for a charity football game benefiting unemployed servicemen. General William R. Smith of West Point accepted the proposal from Rear Admiral Robison of the Naval Academy to stage the contest with arrangements to be finalized by athletic officers from both academies. Tickets will be charged. players admitted free.

Weirton Steel to Start Operations Dec 15

In Weirton a structural steel mill under construction by Weirton Steel Company will begin operations on December 15. The mill is the final unit of a seven million dollar expansion begun last January. J C Williams, company president, said initial operation will be partial and expand with orders, lifting employment as activity grows. The firm currently employs about 8,000 workers on a better than 48 percent basis, with all earning at least part time wages.

Rioting erupts in Madrid as police clash with funeral crowd

Rioting began when mounted police charged a crowd of about 40 000 during a Madrid funeral procession. At least twelve persons were injured as bullets flew. The unrest followed a building collapse Wednesday that killed four workers, with police and civil guards attempting to disperse or reroute the procession through the city center.

Penfield Man Awaiting Arraignment on Liquor Charge

James Estergall of Penfield township was to be arraigned in common pleas court today on a liquor possession charge after Sheriff Clarence E. Adams and deputies arrested him last night. Two gallons of alleged whiskey were found at his residence.

Tax group says report cant be made by Jan

Columbus Nov 14 The governor's general tax committee said a final report on a new state tax code cannot be completed by January 1 despite calls from Governor Cooper for a year end progress report. Robert A Taft of Cincinnati warned that no definite recommendations exist yet and another month is needed to shape subcommittee reports. The panel will meet again Dec 17 with no firm action expected.

Legion Official Asks Probe of Store Bombing

State Commissioner John A. Elden of the American Legion ordered Dudley A. White to St. Clairsville to investigate an Armistice Day tear-bombing of a store. Elden said the alleged bombers acted without Legion authority and a full report will guide subsequent action. White will report to the state executive committee.

Truck Upset Kills Chickens Near Ridgeville

A five ton truck overturned in a ditch on Cleveland road east of Ridgeville killing between 200 and 300 chickens and releasing about 2500 more to roam the countryside. Deputies captured all the poultry. The driver Maurice Crocker Cleveland says another car forced the truck into the ditch. he previously had poultry stolen last summer.

Tax rates for 1930 set for Elyria and Carlisle districts

County Auditor Monroe H. Welty announced 1930 tax rates for 56 of 68 districts in Lorain County. The Elyria rate in Elyria Township drops from 23 to 22.4 mills, saving about $35,000. Elyria city corporation tax falls 0.4697 mills amid bond retirements and pension changes. Carlisle township area of Elyria sees a rate cut from 23.2 to 23 mills as county funds adjust for new hospital and sanatorium needs.

Commissioners Deny Published Lorain Bridge Claim

Lorain County Commissioners issued a flat denial of yesterday’s report that Elyria plans a county bridge over the Black River as part of the Hilliard Road project. Commissioner George Rhoads of Elyria said such a bridge, if built, would not be within Elyria’s present limits and labeled the story a reporter joke from yesterday.
