Elyria reduces city tax rate to 22.4 mills for 1931 from 23 mills in 1930, a drop of 60 cents per $1,000 valuation. County Auditor Monroe H. Welty announced the rate applies to most of Elyria but not the Carlisle township area. The cut follows retirement of bonds on the Elyria-Ridgeville Carlisle-Eaton road district after 20 years, with only $2,000 in bonds remaining and funds to cover them.

Sam Monaco aged 50 was shot and killed in Wooster Ohio early today after answering knocks at his kitchen door. Authorities believe a bootlegging feud sparked the shooting as an assailant fled unseen.

Pomery Ohio November 13 Wyatt Plantz longtime banker and owner of the First City Bank leaves 375000 to the city to wipe out its debt and provide a surplus. He also leaves 8000 to three Masonic lodges 6500 to the Springfield Masonic home 63000 to the Pomeroy lodge and 10000 to the Middleport lodge 100660 to Claude E Gillilan and 20000 in inheritance taxes. Plantz who died at 57 lived alone in the Plantz homestead and never married leaving a fortune valued at 617000 and a career marked by hard edged business acumen. He bequeathed 7500 to the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio and 7500 to Beta Theta Pi at Ohio State University. The will ends the Plantz family line in the Ohio Valley with only one surviving relative a cousin in Chattanooga Tennessee.
