Off Limits Bonds and Flyway Patrol Enforcements
State game officials report strict enforcement as bonds remain closed along the flyway. Mississippi leads in offering convenient motel rows to southbound fowl, while other states provide free meals. The Project began in 1949 with a goal of 50 shooting ponds after a year or two. The commission says prior to 1949 the 100 acre refuge supported few docks in the fill months. Duck counts varied from 29000 to 2340 to 1000 in different periods, as hunters faced new restrictions. Farmers also adopted safety measures to prevent field fires from machinery overheating.
