Thanksgiving dinner costs and turkey prices rise
An old note discusses Thanksgiving price expectations with turkey costs and poultry prices in markets. It mentions December lath as a designated observance and references Mrs. Sarah J. Hale’s advocacy for a national day of thanksgiving. It recalls Gettysburg and Lincoln, and notes varied estimates of turkey availability and celery and oranges for feasts. The text also notes a Newfoundland shoreline anecdote about Thanksgiving origins and Bradford’s harvest praise.
