Lorain Board of Education votes to refile a five year 6.5 mill operating levy after a November defeat to fund 1982 needs. If approved in February the district would avoid 150 layoffs and may borrow state funds to cover 1982 costs with April contract renewal deadlines looming.
Idle funds caused a daily loss of about 400 dollars until Treasurer Elmer Valentine, backed by Law Director Sanborn, restarted investing. Mayor DePaola questioned legality, while Council President Jaworski praised Valentine and criticized the mayor for delaying growth of about 92 thousand dollars in annual interest.
