North Ridgeville hires former Ashtabula head as superintendent

The North Ridgeville Board of Education hired Dr. Roger T. Beutler, former Ashtabula superintendent, on a 3-2 vote for a two year contract at 21 000 dollars annually with 500 dollar raises. Beutler, 42, will begin immediately and has a background at Kent State University and Ball State Indiana University. He previously led Ashtabula Schools serving about 8 000 students.

Ohio House votes on $832 million tax package today

The Ohio House scheduled a late session vote on an $832 million tax package to finance part of an $8.1 billion two year budget. It includes a sales tax increase from 4 to 4.4 percent, broader tax base, higher corporate taxes, and a three cent cigarette tax amid partisan division and opposition from many Democrats. A conference committee backed the measure 4-2 and included $30 million in elderly property tax relief.
