Tehran hostage crisis enters second year with embassy protest

Thousands of Iranians gathered outside the U S Embassy in Tehran on the anniversary of the seizure shouting death to Saddam and America. Iran said Algeria would act as intermediary while Washington denied receiving any note. Prime Minister Rajai said Tehran would assume responsibility for the hostages but arrangements were not yet made. The militants allowed some inside the compound but provided no access to captives, who remain under tight control in unclear locations.
