Police seek three gunmen who tied up a family at 20490 Bunker Hill Drive and stole furs jewelry cash and weapons valued up to 250000. A maroon 1978 Cadillac was also taken license AR 7566. Entry came via an unlocked side door and victims described the intruders in ski masks and gloves.
The Chronicle Telegram poll of 559 Elyria residents shows Democrat Michael Keys leading by 2.8 percent with 43.6 percent to 41.3 percent for incumbent Mayor Marguerite Bowman. Undecided voters stand at 15.1 percent, potentially swing the race.
Federal jury deliberating Melvin Bay Guyon 20 of Cleveland on charges over the Aug 9 shooting of FBI agent Johnnie L. Oliver 35 in a Cleveland East Side housing project tells the judge it is deadlocked. Oliver died after Guyon shot and fled during a high profile manhunt with broader connections to other charges in Illinois.

A tanker carrying 400000 barrels of crude oil collided with a freighter in the Gulf of Mexico, burst into flames and sank. Four crewmen died and more than a dozen were injured. Private boats and Coast Guard units rescued crew from the area about four miles east of Galveston Island as helicopters lifted Japanese crewmen from the vessels.
