Poll shows strong Elyria opposition to bottle deposit law
A Cincinnati Times-Star poll of 598 Elyria area residents finds 57 percent against Issue 1, the anti-litter bottle deposit measure, with 31.3 percent for and 11.7 percent undecided. If undecided align with decided, defeat could surge to about 64 percent amid a $1 million plus anti-deposit campaign.

Twenty six C T reporters conducted a telephone poll of Elyria residents asking whether they would vote for or against a proposed law imposing at least a 10¢ deposit on all glass metal and plastic beverage containers. Over 700 calls were made Oct 24 through Oct 30 to 598 respondents, with an approximate 5 point margin of error.

Youth 17 Dies In Rt 57 Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer
A 17 year old Grafton youth Edward Moore was killed and 16 year old Cynthia Robinson injured when a rain slicked Rt 7 at Rt 82 caused Moore to lose control and his car was hit from behind by a southbound tractor trailer driven by Gerald Hockey. Robinson remained in fair condition at Elyria Memorial Hospital. Moore, a Midview High School senior, and Robinson, a junior, were cut free by Carlisle Township firefighters. Funeral arrangements are at Wainwright Funeral Home.
