Fred Tapper and his wife Pauline, of Toledo avenue near Stop 48, Lorain, remain in critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital after an explosion destroyed their home at around 9:15 am yesterday. Tapper had just dropped off his children Gustave and Alice at Sunday school and investigated a sizzling noise in the basement when the blast occurred. Neighbors and brother Paul Ehrlich aided, with flames sweeping the structure before the walls collapsed.
