Germans Claim Iron Ring Has Closed In Flanders

German high command says a massive encirclement around roughly one million Allied troops in Flanders and Artois has been completed. The advance along the channel coast and German forces moving through Belgium reportedly led to the capture of Ghent and a breakthrough toward key targets.

Steel Worker Killed In Auto Bus Collision

A 24 year old steel worker, John B. Zagrobelny of Amherst, died when his car hit a Lorain-South Amherst bus on Oberlin avenue. His fiancée to be, Miss Mary Semyczyk, 21, had applied for a marriage license. The bus driver and three passengers sustained minor injuries. three other minor accidents were also reported in the area.

Bank Purchase Approved in Amherst by State

The state banking department approved the transfer of the Amherst Park Bank to Lorain County Savings and Trust Co. The merger, effective June 3, will move all deposits and loans to the Amherst branch. About 2,000 Park Bank depositors are affected with staff moving to the Lorain County Bank except retiring F H Steel.

Winners Of Legion School Awards Announced

Fifteen eighth grade girls and fifteen boys from Elyria public and parochial schools were honored at a party by Elyria Post No. 12. Molly Hudnut of McKinley school and Henry F. Relief Funds To Be Made Available In Lorain County

Elyria relief fund at 3300 dollars to gain about 1000 from a 315000 transfer from the county bond retirement fund to the direct relief account. Ernest E. Holmes says Lorain and Elyria relief departments will get shares of the 15000 transfer, likely 55 percent to the county, 38 percent to Lorain city, and 7 percent to Elyria if March distributions repeat.

Paris May 25 Allied forces were reported to have cut 13 miles into a 25 mile German wedge from Bapaume to Peronne and fought fiercely to break the trap around possibly a million British French and Belgian troops.
