German high command says a massive encirclement around roughly one million Allied troops in Flanders and Artois has been completed. The advance along the channel coast and German forces moving through Belgium reportedly led to the capture of Ghent and a breakthrough toward key targets.
A 24 year old steel worker, John B. Zagrobelny of Amherst, died when his car hit a Lorain-South Amherst bus on Oberlin avenue. His fiancée to be, Miss Mary Semyczyk, 21, had applied for a marriage license. The bus driver and three passengers sustained minor injuries. three other minor accidents were also reported in the area.
The state banking department approved the transfer of the Amherst Park Bank to Lorain County Savings and Trust Co. The merger, effective June 3, will move all deposits and loans to the Amherst branch. About 2,000 Park Bank depositors are affected with staff moving to the Lorain County Bank except retiring F H Steel.

Fifteen eighth grade girls and fifteen boys from Elyria public and parochial schools were honored at a party by Elyria Post No. 12. Molly Hudnut of McKinley school and Henry F. Ingerson of Hamilton school were named the girls and boys American Legion school award recipients. The awards will be presented at the Memorial Day services on Thursday May 30.

Fire of undetermined origin gutted the Frobotta home at 1857 Middle Avenue, causing estimated damage of $1,500 or more. The blaze started in the basement near a furnace, spread to the dining room and attic, and rekindled two hours after initial suppression, prompting two rounds of fire department response by Quad Company No. 1 and Engine Company No. 1.

Paris May 25 Allied forces were reported to have cut 13 miles into a 25 mile German wedge from Bapaume to Peronne and fought fiercely to break the trap around possibly a million British French and Belgian troops. French sources said Amiens was reoccupied and a solid front along the Somme was formed to deter German counter thrusts.
Frank Henke was reelected chair man of the Democratic city committee at a Graystone Hotel meeting of precinct committeemen. Harvid Ewing was elected vice chairman Iona Dengate secretary and Mary Eschman treasurer. The nine county executive committee representatives named include Dengate Eschman Elemes Seward Henke Gray Ewing Maple Wehber. The county central committee will meet at 8 p m Wednesday at the Eagles Hall.
London reports gunfire on the French coast heard across the English Channel and along the southeast coast as fighting appears underway in French ports. RAF and fleet air arm aircraft harassed German positions near the channel and reportedly sank a torpedo boat, set tanks alight, and attacked Rotterdam oil depots.
Elyria chapter of the American Red Cross reports 1159.43 raised for war relief with over one quarter of the $4000 local quota met. Funds come from streets and homes 283.78 clubs 38 churches 70.06 corporations 93 individuals 466 townships 194.65 Oberlin 173.50 and other church and organization contributions.
Police seek two gunmen who robbed Bert Brock sales manager of J Brock and Co of a $1083 payroll as he returned from a bank yesterday. Brock was held up during the daytime theft in Cleveland.
