Memorial services honor fallen soldiers at Elyria events

Tributes to Elyria’s dead soldiers were offered at Memorial Sunday services in Ely Park and the Capitol Theatre. Major Alfred J. Funnell, chaplain of the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Home, urged preparedness for national peace and security, with veterans groups leading the program. Knights of Columbus hold 250 members at Elyria event

Thirty five candidates from Elyria and Lorain were invested in the second and third Knights of Columbus degrees at the local club rooms. A banquet at St Marys parish hall followed with 230 Knights and ladies in attendance. Rev Father Edward Seward urged prayers for peace and spoke on war, justice, and Christlike charity, noting dreamers may build peace through prayer.

Fall Results In Death Of Elderly Elyria Man

An 84 year old Elyria man John Schuster died after a fall down stairs at his home. The fall caused a punctured lung from five fractured ribs and a severe head laceration. He lived at 240 George Street with his sister-in-law and another caregiver. Born in Germany, he lived many years in Eaton and Elyria, with two sisters as close relatives. Funeral services are set for 9 am Wednesday at St Peters Cemetery Ridgeville with burial there.
