Sheffield Lake voters face a 1 million dollar bond to finance storm sewer construction and a charter amendment on city council purchases on the June 8 primary ballot. The 3.7631 mill bond would fund seven miles of storm sewers with assessments on affected property owners, while non sewered residents may still gain from reduced sanitary sewer costs.
The storm sewer plan aims to drain rainwater faster to prevent flooding. A bond issue would require voter approval since state law limits a municipal debt to no more than 10 mills without a ballot. Sheffield Lake now levies 10 mills distributed to county, schools, and city per the Lorain County auditor.
