Scientists honored for starch based super slurper development
A team of eight Absorbent Polymer Research Group scientists at Peoria led by Dr William N Doane received a high Agriculture Department citation for a starch based super slurper. It absorbs up to 1400 times its weight in water and can be added to or coated on materials to soak up liquids. The slurper, not sold directly, could cut costs of absorbent materials in homes and hospitals. General Mills currently produces it commercially on a limited basis with others pursuing patent rights.
