Columbia math teacher Willemene Koharek, who has 30 years in the district, submitted her retirement resignation to the Board of Education and will leave at the end of the 1985-86 school year. Sandra Massaro resigned as middle school assistant track coach.
Lorain may cancel its home health care program for the elderly and disabled as competition from Lorain Community and St Joseph hospitals grows. Interim health director Terry Tomaszewski says referrals are down since the hospitals began offering the service, with seven nurses and one aide currently employed and possible layoffs if the program ends. Joyce Davis notes Lorain County Health Department’s other home health program is performing well.
Three men including two Vermilion residents pleaded guilty in Toledo federal court to willfully filing false income tax returns for 1980. Disbrow Mark Van Fossen and Jess Van Fossen admitted income from marijuana smuggling and distribution was unreported. Disbrow reported 347 dollars, Mark Van Fossen 4379 dollars, and Jess Van Fossen 9591 dollars.
