Presser Easily Wins Five-Year Teamsters Presidency in Las Vegas

Jackie Presser secured a five-year term as president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters by a wide vote of 1 800 delegates in Las Vegas. Despite facing federal embezzlement charges, the 59 year old former jukebox delivery worker pledged to protect the union as the no 1 in the free world. The election followed the resignation of Roy Williams and marked the third Teamster president elected amid federal inquiries since 1903.

Lorain County schools consider gas buying consortium

Lorain County's 16 public school systems mull forming a gas purchasing consortium for 1986-87 to save costs. A potential 10 percent reduction could reach $300,000, with each district paying a $500 membership fee and about $6,000 in legal costs. Berea teen held on aggravated murder charges in Robyn case

A Cuyahoga County judge ruled probable cause exists to continue aggravated murder charges against 15-year-old Warren Paxton Brown for the strangling of 13-year-old Robyn Field of Berea on April 22. A 14-year-old witness testified, and Brown’s aunt Charlene Murphy, 29, is charged with tampering, obstructing justice, and possessing criminal tools in the body’s disposal. The court did not decide on adult trial.
