County Treasurer WN D Backus reveals a bond budget showing a need to raise the county tax rate by slightly over 0.15 mill to cover deficits in nine special assessment bonds. Deficits total $98,556 for next year, with bonds previously guaranteed by the county but not fully paid by districts, while general county obligations remain separate from the 15 mill cap.
State highway officials proposed rerouting Routes 59 and 57 to avoid the West Bridge street and Lake Avenue area. A public hearing is set for June 6 at 10 A M in the county commissioners' office, with road engineer I R Ault presiding. The plan would shift Route 49 to enter Elyria via West street to Lodi, then West avenue to Broad street, abandoning portions of Huron street West Bridge street and Broad street up to West avenue. Route 57 would move from Take avenue and Lodi to follow Lodi to West avenue then Broad street, altering the existing Lake avenue to West Bridge street alignment.

The storm destroyed the Pyzer farm buildings and left a path of wreckage across Henry Pyzer’s property.

Pierpont Morgan testified he opposes much current banking regulation and defended private banking while defending the firm’s leadership and director overlaps. Deposits of J. P. Morgan & Co. and Drexel & Co. totaled about 250,000,000.
A rally of solicitors and friends of the Referendum Petition will be held Thursday evening at 7 30 in the Methodist church auditorium. Reports on the petition will be read and the committee urges all interested residents to attend.

Final arrangements for the Memorial Day observance will be set at a Wednesday night committee meeting in council chambers at 7:30. The parade starts at 2 p m May 30 from West avenue and Broad street marching to Washington avenue Harrison street and Ridgelawn Cemetery where Rev Isadore Rafferty will speak. Memorial Sunday services are planned at the Capitol Theatre at 19:30 m under Church of Christ auspices and a Maine sailors memorial service will be held at Ely park at 10 m next Sunday.
Elvira Kiwanis Club members will host their annual Memorial Day program at the Hotel Newell Thursday. Four remaining G A R veterans in the city will be guests, along with commanders from other patriotic groups. Dr J A Richards of Oberlin College will speak.
Dayton Ohio May 26 John Bean 12 died after touching a high tension wire and falling 30 feet from a pole. Death attributed to shock and injuries from the fall.
Murray Ridge School in Carlisle Township Lorain County has won the Class B Health Trophy three consecutive years in the Blue Ribbon Health Contest. The Chronicle-Telegram cup becomes permanent for the school, with a new cup to be issued for Class B next year. Three banners in the photo mark the three straight championships.
Two eighth grade students in Elyria, Harry Wasserman of Washington School and Lillian Dowdell of Jefferson School, were named the American Legion School Award winners. The honor, awarded by the local Legion Post, honors character, scholarship, leadership and service.

Elyria's school board appointed 151 teachers for the 1983 34 year without contracts on term length or salary amounts due to uncertain finances. The action cuts positions by 14 1 2 with 4 at the high school and 101 2 at junior high and elementary levels, aiming to save about 319,728.60. Resignations and deaths were not filled, contributing to the staffing reductions.
