Rivers and Harbor Bill Carries 125 Million
Washington march 23 an expanded rivers and harbors bill carrying 125 900 009 or 14 000 600 more than was provided by the house awaits action in the senate today. It includes authorizations for waterway and port projects nationwide with a notable provision giving the war department authority over water diversion from the Great Lakes for the Illinois waterway. The bill would require 7 590 000 to improve the system and faced a possible senate floor clash over this clause after a committee vote 10 8 against limiting diversion. The measure does not fix the diversion amount but directs enough water be diverted to create a useful waterway from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi without hindering Great Lakes navigation.

Nursery rhymes mirror real figures from lore and lore
Not a few nursery rhymes would sound shocking in their original forms as moral portraits. Little Jack Horner and Little Tommy Tucker were real persons whose characters invite scrutiny, while clouds described as ten mailles thick evoke vague dense skies.
