Avon farmer fined for illegal wine possession and large stash confiscated
Arraigned before Justice Walter Watts, Steve Stumphauzer of Avon Village, fined $300 and costs after pleading guilty to possession of wine at his farm. Sheriff Adams and deputies seized 1700 gallons of wine from Stumphauzer’s cellar, including 34 barrels filled with beverage, and 13 empty barrels. Stock valued at a minimum of $6800. Police say youths from Ridgeville fueled disorder and that the wine source would be targeted. Stumphauzer had supplied wine to deputies at $1 per quart. He faced arraignment in Avon today.

Nineteen month old Kenneth Roy Weibling, son of Mr and Mrs Fred Weibling of 249 West River street, was killed when struck by an auto driven by Robert Gunder 17 of Fuller road at 7 P M Thursday. Witnesses said Gunder drove slowly and pulled aside to let another car pass. coroner ruled accidental death. The baby died at Elyria clinic and was laid to rest at Ridge lawn cemetery after services from St Marys Church. He is survived by his parents and twelve siblings.

Pilot Killed Trying Forced Landing Near Crawfordsville
Harold L. Mayer, pilot of a Chicago chartered plane carrying a physician and Mrs Louise McCusker bound for Valdosta, Ga, died when engine trouble forced a landing and the craft struck a tree near Waynetown Indiana. Mrs McCusker suffered cuts and bruises but was not believed seriously hurt. Dr Frederick Harvey, Chicago, was slightly injured and intended to continue the journey. Mayer, of Lake Forest Illinois, died within minutes from a fractured skull. The Stot hart couple were injured in Valdosta. Mrs McCusker rushed to aid them.

Read by H V Thaden at the Society of Automotive Engineers meeting the craft would carry 120000 pounds with a 5000 mile non stop range. Powered by ten 500 hp engines using crude oil fuel the design places cabins in wing compartments eight feet high with huge pontoons for baggage. Wing span 289 feet length 160 feet max speed 145 mph, larger than the Dornier Dx100 yet with a different layout.

In Benwood West Virginia on May 238 two bandits used a tear gas bomb and guns to halt a bank cash transfer. They seized about five thousand dollars from J. W. Johnson of the Union Bank as he moved funds from Wheeling. A mechanic dressed suspect tossed the bomb and the robbers escaped in a second car with an Ohio plate.
