Bill to upgrade recklessness charge follows Krysa shooting
From At tors to file the charge against an individual accused of recklessly causing the death of another person. The charge would be a third degree felony carrying a maximum possible penalty of five years in prison. Only Vernon Sykes, D Akron, opposed the bill. Taylor introduced the bill after the death of Michelle Krysa, 19, of Lorain in May 1996. Krysa was shot at close range by Quinn Aldridge, who was handling a stolen .45 caliber pistol. Prosecutors were limited to charging Aldridge with negligent homicide, a first degree misdemeanor, because he did not intend to kill Krysa. Aldridge, who also faced other charges such as theft, tampering with evidence, unlawful possession of a firearm and breaking and entering, was sentenced to two years in prison.
