American William Louther a pivotal figure in establishing contemporary dance in Britain has died in London at St George's Hospital on May 7. Born January 22 1942 in New York City he studied at the High School of Performing Arts Juilliard and Martha Graham later performing with Martha Graham Company and Alvin Ailey. He joined the London Contemporary Dance Theatre in 1967 and became a leading dancer in 1969.
