European War To Hit U S Taxpayer

The White House will ask Congress for more defense funds this week to supplement the 2 billion already sought for the army and navy. Four-bandit spree ends in deaths and wounds in Ohio

Four gunmen robbed victims across Lorain County and Cleveland area in a one night crime wave. Victims included Mrs. Grace Woodworth Edward Tomlin and David Smith who were tied up after a filling station hold up. Two bandits were killed and several others wounded in the chaotic spree.

McNary of Oregon for president and House Republican Leader Joe Martin of Massachusetts for vice president on the ninth ballot at the 20th Oberlin mock convention. The platform opposed war participation, backed a World Federal Union and farm aid, and favored civil service reform and anti monopoly measures. Frieda the elephant drew humorous attention and was nominated for vice president as a publicity stunt.

Six Camp Staff Named for 1940 Iss-See-Kies Camp

Camp Iss-See-Kies in Elyria Ohio announces six staff members for the 1940 season led by Russell Gleason as assistant director and Robert Karp Jack Reinhardt David Green Sam Rockwood and Avian Fritzsche. Oberlin Student Charged in Fatal Traffic Crash

Oberlin College student Peter B. Auerbach 21 faces involuntary manslaughter charge for the Saturday night death of Miss Inah E. Avery 82 as she crossed West avenue at Third street. He pled not guilty and posted 1000 bond pending a January preliminary hearing before Mayor Joseph Perry. Avery, a longtime rural teacher and Elyria resident, died at Elyria Memorial Hospital after the collision. Witnesses included several local residents. funeral services are set for Tuesday at Taylor Funeral Home with burial in Oberlin Cemetery.

City urges removal of ashes from alleys before oiling
