Hearing loss focus gains in Elyria clinic report
Elyria residents face rising deafness with about 15 000 affected in Lorain County. Elderly patients like Eleanor McLurel describe reduced sound clarity, while doctors urge yearly hearing checks, use of ear protection, and early medical help to mitigate damage. Medical advances such as AMP and cochlear implants offer options for some, though cost and insurers remain barriers.

About 40 councils received the honor as Westlake leaders, including President Dave Crandall and four other seniors, shared how their yearlong service projects were evaluated by administrators and teachers. The group also earned All-Ohio Student Council recognition for Crandall, Vice President Pete Moggardy, Secretary Cindy Cilimburg, Treasurer Todd Myers, and Homecoming Chair Jenny Kasay.
